Facebook and Instagram down; users face a headache as posts fail to upload.

Hundreds of users are facing issues accessing Meta’s popular social media platforms, Facebook and Instagram. Services on both platforms remained down for an extended period across the globe, including in India. As users encountered difficulties, thousands turned to X (formerly Twitter) to report the problem. Many users reported seeing an error message when attempting to log in via the desktop version of Facebook.

Error message displayed to users

The error message reads: “Account temporarily unavailable. Your account is currently unavailable due to a site issue. We expect this to be resolved shortly. Please try again in a few minutes.”

According to Downdetector, a website that tracks service outages, Instagram users also faced issues, with thousands reporting the problem. However, services on both platforms have now been restored.

According to Downdetector, a site that tracks outages, over 4,000 people have reported issues with Instagram. More than 3,000 people are currently facing problems with Facebook, while over 100 users are experiencing issues with Messenger.

According to Downdetector, more than 2,000 users in India alone have reported problems with Instagram. The outage tracker indicated issues with the app, the timeline, and posting. Data shows that approximately 39 percent of users faced problems with the app, 31 percent with the feed/timeline, and 23 percent with posting/publishing. The outage tracker map highlights New Delhi, Jaipur, Kolkata, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, and several other locations as the areas most affected by the outage.

Users worldwide, including in India, affected

It appears that thousands of users have been impacted by this outage; Downdetector reports that approximately 4,207 users in the US were affected. Similarly, 3,200 users in the US faced outage issues with Facebook. Both platforms are owned by the social media giant Meta. While these issues seem to be affecting users globally, they do not appear to be impacting the entire platform.

Facebook’s desktop version affected

Instagram users are reporting issues with the app, whereas Facebook users are reporting problems with the platform’s desktop version. Facebook users state that they are able to use the platform via the app but are unable to do so on the desktop.

Instagram users reported receiving the following error message: “Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on getting it fixed as soon as we can.”
