Google is introducing a new AI feature called ‘Ask Maps’ to its Maps app, which will act as a virtual travel guide to help you plan your journey. Powered by Google’s Gemini AI, this feature understands questions asked in natural language and provides tailored recommendations.
Previously, users had to search for hotels, restaurants, or tourist spots individually on Google Maps; with ‘Ask Maps,’ they can simply state their specific needs. For instance, if you ask, “I’m traveling from Delhi to Jaipur; what are some interesting places to visit along the way?” or “Suggest a cafe that has EV charging and isn’t too crowded,” the AI will provide suggestions based on those criteria.
Google states that this feature will not merely display a list of locations but will also provide relevant contextual information to enhance your trip. This could include attractions along the route, local favorites, hidden gems, estimated travel time (ETA), parking details, and other useful information. This eliminates the need for users to scour multiple websites or apps for information.

The standout feature of ‘Ask Maps’ is its AI capability. It generates responses by analyzing over 300 million places listed on Google Maps, along with millions of user reviews, photos, and other data. This means you receive recommendations tailored to your specific needs rather than just generic search results.
