WhatsApp is now giving some users early access to upcoming features directly within the app, making it easier to join the beta program. However, this feature is currently available to a limited number of users.
Messaging platform WhatsApp is making a major change in how it provides new features to its users. Until now, using WhatsApp’s beta features required enrolling in the beta program through the Google Play Store, where only a limited number of slots were available. Now, the company is directly offering beta features to some users who are not officially part of the beta program.
According to WABetaInfo, the new WhatsApp Android update (version 2.26.2.11), available on the Google Play Store, is showing users an ‘Early access to features’ option within the app. This means users can now try out upcoming features directly from WhatsApp’s settings without needing a third-party APK or having to wait for a long time.
How does this feature work?
To use this feature, users need to go to WhatsApp settings and find the ‘Early access to features’ option. From there, they can decide whether or not they want early access to beta features. Importantly, if users experience problems with the beta version, they can turn this option off at any time and revert to the previous experience.
Which users are getting this benefit?
Currently, this feature is not available to everyone. WhatsApp is rolling it out to a select group of users, including some non-beta users and some existing beta testers. So, if you don’t see this option on your phone yet, it’s possible you’ll get it in future updates.
However, a flaw has also emerged in this new system. Some users have reported that as soon as they turn on the ‘Early access to features’ toggle, WhatsApp automatically turns it off immediately. There is currently no direct solution to this bug, and users may have to wait for the next WhatsApp update.
